Description
Ingredients:
- Water
- Black tea leaves (preferably strong tea like Assam or Darjeeling)
- Sugar (optional, adjust to taste)
- Black salt (or regular salt, if preferred)
- Fresh mint leaves (pudina), crushed or torn
- Ginger (optional, grated or sliced)
- Lemon wedge (for juice)
- Masala mix (can use a pre-made chai masala or a homemade mix of cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, and black pepper)
Instructions:
- Boil Water and Tea: In a saucepan, bring the water to a boil. Once it begins to simmer, add the black tea leaves and let it steep for 2-3 minutes.
- Add Masala and Ginger (Optional): Add the masala mix (chai masala), ginger, and black salt to the boiling tea. Stir and let it simmer for another 2-3 minutes to blend the flavors.
- Crush and Add Mint: Add the crushed or torn mint leaves to the tea mixture. You can use a spoon or muddler to gently crush the mint leaves to release their refreshing oils.
- Add Lemon: Once the tea has brewed with the spices, remove it from heat. Add the fresh lemon juice from a wedge and stir.
- Strain and Serve: Strain the tea into your cup, discarding the tea leaves, ginger, and mint leaves.
- Sweeten (Optional): Add sugar to taste and stir until dissolved. Serve hot.
