Description
Vada Pav is a popular street food from Mumbai, often referred to as the “Indian burger.” It consists of a spicy potato filling, known as “vada,” which is deep-fried in a crisp batter and served inside a soft pav (bread roll). Vada Pav is typically enjoyed with chutneys and sometimes a fried green chili for an added kick.
Ingredients:
- For the Vada (Potato Filling):
- Medium-sized potatoes (boiled and mashed)
- Sunflower oil
- Mustard seeds
- Cumin seeds
- Green chilies (finely chopped)
- Ginger (grated)
- Turmeric powder
- Garam masala
- Red chili powder
- Sugar (optional)
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves (finely chopped)
- Lemon juice
- For the Coating:
- Besan (gram flour)
- Turmeric powder
- Ted chili powder
- Baking soda (optional)
- Salt to taste
- Water (to make the batter)
- For the Pav (Bread Roll):
- Soft pav (available at most Indian bakeries)
- Chutneys (Optional but recommended):
- Green chutney (made from coriander, mint, green chilies, and lemon juice)
- Tamarind chutney (sweet and tangy)
